Every city has a morning ritual. People stand at the bus stop, stare at their phones, glance up the road, and sigh the sigh of a thousand late buses. The bus, of course, is always somewhere else, probably enjoying a coffee break.
One woman on this sunny avenue decided that she was done with the waiting game. Her logic was flawless in its own way: if the bus will not come to her, she will simply come to the road by other means. And what other means could possibly be better than a shiny green bumper car with little orange flames painted on the side?
Nobody knows exactly where the little round vehicle came from. Maybe a fairground was packing up nearby. Maybe someone owed her a favour. What we do know is that she sat behind the wheel with the calm face of a person driving a perfectly normal sedan.
The traffic around her was the real comedy. Large, serious cars with dark windows crept forward bumper to bumper, while this tiny green saucer slid between them like a duck swimming through a lane of cruise ships. Every driver nearby had the exact same expression: a quick look, a slower second look, and then the quiet thought that maybe they should have taken a bumper car too.
Her posture was impressive. Hands steady, scarf neatly in place, eyes forward. There was no panic, no honking war, no gesture at all. Just a woman and her transport, moving at a completely respectable speed for a vehicle designed to be crashed into friends.
The palm trees waved. The tall buildings watched. Somewhere in the distance, a bus finally turned the corner, saw the green bumper car, and probably decided to take another lap around the block out of pure embarrassment.
Of course, a bumper car is not exactly built for highways. It has no trunk, no air conditioning, and the steering has the sense of direction of a toddler in a toy shop. But it does have style, it does have flames, and it has the one thing no bus can offer: total independence from the timetable.
The only real risk of the plan is the obvious one. If you get used to the freedom of a bumper car, you will never look at public transport the same way again. You will start eyeing shopping carts, office chairs and inflatable pool animals as serious commuting options.
So the next time the bus is late, remember this small green hero of the road. Stay calm, think creatively, and maybe check whether the local fair has a spare vehicle. The morning commute has never looked so cheerful.
